88 Shanghai Countdown

88 Shanghai Countdown is an annual kickoff event marking 88 days until graduation for seniors at NYU Shanghai, held for the Class of 2022 on March 4, 2022. As the creative director on the Commencement Committee, I created the brand identity for the event, including event decorations, promotion, and merchandise.

Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the senior class of 2022 was spread across Shanghai, New York, Abu Dhabi, and across the world for the majority of our college years. Facing semi circle motifs were used across the visual identity to reflect the united, yet physically separated, global class.


Logo

Inspired by the typography work of Kenichi Minami, this custom typeface puts a playful edge on the Chinese characters for Shanghai (上海).

Subtle gradient purples and blues, based on NYU's iconic purple, are contrasted with a graphic bright yellow-green to create a futuristic tone.
